She flinched a little at those cruel words. “You do not have to be a part of the child’s life if you do not wish to be.”
“That is what my father did Lorelei. No child of mine will grow up like I did.”
“Then what is the problem, Francis? I don’t understand.” She frowned, unsure of where this conversation was going. It sounded as if Francis did not want children, nor did he want to leave them to be raised by her alone if they had them. It seemed so contradicting.

“Perhaps this is the problem. We never seem to be able to communicate very well with each other.” Lorelei lowered her eyes to her lap.
