Only one more day until my anniversary….

Hard to believe it’s been a year already.

Yes…yes, it’s very hard to believe.

[Doesn’t know how she survived a whole year]

What’s that tone for?

“We’ll still have the entire evening to ourselves.”

“Good. Hopefully that will…make up for things.”

Francis grinned, “Could it be that my queen is looking forward to spending another night making love with me?”

Though she didn’t believe him, since she had heard his stutter earlier, she returned the smile. “Good. When I get back, perhaps we can…plan what we will do for our anniversary. It is coming up quite soon, you know.”

“I thought you wanted to spend another night out in the gardens?”

“I do. I just…thought we might do something else as well. Make a day out of it or something. It’s a specially occasion, you know. Seeing as it is our first anniversary.”

“I had already begun to plan something for the two of us for the evening. And I’m sure the court has something planned for the day.”

She nodded a bit. “Whatever you have planned, I am sure that I will enjoy it.” A worried look flashed across her features. “Oh, I am sure they do.”

“It’s tradition, the court won’t want to ruin tradition regardless of their feelings for you.”

“I am sure that it will be a very…strained occasion with forced politeness and kindness and well wishes.”

“Well yes of course. That’s part of the tradition as well.”

“Oh fun. I can…hardly wait.”

"We’ll still have the entire evening to ourselves."

“Yes. I was not able to go in the winter, nor when my father died so…I thought it would be an appropriate length of time to spend at my family home. An enjoyable time too, since my mother is no longer there. And you’ve been so busy lately. I’ve found myself without much to do, since the weather still isn’t quite warm enough for much gardening.”

“I can see no reason why you shouldn’t go. “

She turned and gave him a little smile. “Good. I should only be gone for…about three weeks at the most.”

“I’m-I’m sure you’ll have a wonderful time.”

Frowning, Lorelei gave him a once over. “Is…something wrong, Francis?”

He put on a large smile for her, “Not at all my dear.”

“Yes and you, the kingdom, and your dead father will all get the child they clearly want! Regardless of if I want said child.”

She flinched a little at those cruel words. “You do not have to be a part of the child’s life if you do not wish to be.”

“That is what my father did Lorelei. No child of mine will grow up like I did.”

“Then what is the problem, Francis? I don’t understand.” She frowned, unsure of where this conversation was going. It sounded as if Francis did not want children, nor did he want to leave them to be raised by her alone if they had them. It seemed so contradicting.

“Just let’s leave this be. There are much more pleasant things we could be discussing right now. “

“Perhaps this is the problem. We never seem to be able to communicate very well with each other.” Lorelei lowered her eyes to her lap. Perhaps the promise of children was just that, just words to try and comfort her, to try and get her to stay. Sweet words to lure her into contentedness. She stood, smoothing imaginary wrinkles from her dress and made her way about the parlor, straightening up the place a bit to keep herself busy. “I thought I might ride to the countryside to see my uncle and stay there for a few weeks.”

He kept the frown off of his face, feeling slightly feeling that a few weeks could quickly turn into forever. Things between them had been doing better, but it seems he really put his foot in his mouth this time. He knew he should have kept that little fact to himself. “A few weeks? “
